YAY my exams are over! I failed to fully complete a maths FP1 exam today but I can't say I am too bothered by it and it was an expected result.
More importantly, in my mind, is that I am back training! I find it funny how I value training over education even at a time where I am doing exams and applying for uni! Anyway I did absolutely feck all on my legs from the end of Sunday through 'till I jogged for roughly 5 minutes in total on Thursday. The tendons at the bottom of my hamstring were still tender from Saturday but after nearly 4 days of rest I decided to stretch them of with a gentle jog... I covered only about 2 thirds of a mile but it was enough - I was back.
Friday/today I went straight to the gym after my exam and spent 90 mins in there. It was a really intense workout and though I hadn't been for a week I was feeling good (maybe because I had rested for so long - something of a rare privilege for my body). I stayed clear of a lot of leg work but did loads of bench pressing - doing over 70 reps in total. I learned the barbell actually weighs 20kg and realized that by pressing 25 kg on each side I had pressed more than my own weight. A target I had been aiming for since I started weight lifting!
I got home ate some breaded chicken with pasta and peas and a pint of milk "of course" - just about my favorite quick healthy meal for after a workout. Two chicken fillets along with the milk contain more than enough protein for the initial recovery period and the pasta is a great way of replenishing lost energy supplies. Veg' is always good and it is also good to get a source of fat inside you aswel - I like to use that as an excuse to eat a chockie biscuit :P
I then went for a steady 2 mile run - just to work my tendons again. I did it in a little over 13 minutes which I didn't think was too bad for a guy who is out of practice with running. I wasn't, however, happy with my running. I found myself slapping my feet as I ran and didn't have a decent technique. The lack of practice and the fact I had my dog pulling me along on a lead will not have helped but it is definitely something I will be working on. I might start doing the 3-4 mile run home from the gym. I recon once I start doing it regular enough it will be a piece of cake... Just getting started is the problem.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow's jam as I haven't done any decent parkour for almost 2 weeks now (as I hurt myself early on last Sat's jam) and I have an ok level of fitness to go for some decent training. The weather should hold aswel :D
